Red Carpet Report: 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards...The Oh Dear! Top Ten!

Daytime Emmy Awards Red Carpet OH DEAR! Top Ten!!!

I'm just going to make this Short and Not-so-Sweet--in terms of my Daytime Emmys Red Carpet Fashion Two Cents. I present to you my "Oh Dear! Daytime Emmy Awards Ladies"...

The Finalists:

Petal Pusher: Pink Petal Prom Disaster--It's like someone tried to Knock Off something from Project Runway Season 5 Winner Leanne Marshall...but didn't succeed. I loved the hair though (insert Happy Face).

Where's The Rest of My Dress: Oh huney! Did you forget the rest of your dress? This is unacceptable. Maybe on the runway, it looked H.O.T. Hot on a 6 foot tall model from Brazil but here, in real life, on the red carpet, it looks as if you ran out of your secret lover's hotel room right before his wife showed up!

Scuba No: Now, I realize the whole "Scuba" Theme is big for Resort 2012, but...What in the name of Color-Blocking Fashion is this above? And those necklaces? Were they really necessary? On stage, that neckline looked a teeny weeny bit TOO PLUNGING as well. The "sistahs" didn't look so nice. Her hair and make-up look were very good though (see, I try to include some positives).

Tonya Harding Meets Daytime Drama: Bless Her Swarovski Crystal Studded Purse Heart. Let me guess: Judith Lieber? (the purse, that is) The dress is A LOT of Bubblegum Pink--and I'm a fan of Barbie Bubblegum Pink but maybe not so much of it. And why is the top section inspired by a Figure Skating Costume? Tonya Harding We've Got A (Fashion) Problem!

Real Housewives of Orange County Garage Sale: Two Word: Oh No! It's a Handkerchief-y Hem...it's Caftan-y...it's Wrong. Someone made a mistake and told her she was going to a 20th High School Reunion for one of the "Real Housewives of Orange County" as opposed to "Hello, it's the Daytime Emmy Awards"! Maybe at a resort in Marrakesh but not on the Red Carpet.

Pageant Betty: Well well well, it looks like one of Miss USA 2011 Contestants decided to "jump ship", leave the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Telecast and went straight to the Las Vegas Hilton instead! I wonder if her "handler" even knew she was missing? What is with this gown: The garish colors and the feathers on the boobie (sorry for the Kindergarten-speak), the mesh/nude-and-diamante inset...

Athens On a Budget: I get that the Grecian Goddess Look is still very in--I am a big Fan of this, but the dress is a bit of a misstep here. I think it's the "striped" fabrication--why isn't it just gathered and draped like all the other Grecian Goddess dresses? And then the addition of the necklaces, earrings and...is that a "crown"/headband? Oh those Daytime Drama girls love their accessories huney.

Quick, A Steamer: Looks like someone tried to "recreate" that Gucci Spring 2011 "Look of the Season"...and it did not work. This is like "Wet Seal/Contempo Casuals" Does Gucci. And the wrinkling didn't help. Hand-held Steamer anyone?

Runner Up:

Toddlers & Tiaras Red Carpet: Please tell me she is on some SERIOUS medication. Please. Why is she smiling? I guess I give her points for even walking out of the house, getting in a car and doing the Red Carpet. Who thinks of these two VERY different prints and then decides to combine them? Who? My favorite part, though, is THAT "TLC Toddlers & Tiaras" hair-DON'T. Will someone PLEASE stop hairstylists from doing side ringlets?? PLEASE!!!

But The Award Goes To:

My Window Curtains Are Gone: I ABSOLUTELY love this woman. Any person who would have the chutzpah to just go out, in public, to a BIG Red Carpet Event--in THIS Dress--must be a HOOT to be with! This dress is now on my official "Worst Dresses of 2011" List (I just created the list!). It's like she went to Western Costumes and got an old Marie Antoinette costume (or some curtains from a "Period Film") and decided to pair it with an unrelated black dress she had in her closet from 1987. It's either that or there's a new Project Runway copy-cat show filming in LA as we speak and this was the result of one of the unfortunate Challenges.

Red Carpet Report: 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Best Dressed!

Ahhh...the Daytime Emmys.
You have to give this Awards Show a bit of a Southern "Bless their hearts" when speaking of them. It is truly the "bastard child" of the Awards Season. Most of these poor ladies don't get the benefit of loaned dresses or high-paying stylists to give them the assistance they so desperately need. So with that disclaimer out of the way...

I present my "Nick Verreos Best Dressed" (maybe it should be Better Dressed!) for the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards:

Camila Banus of Days Of Our Lives clearly won the night for best dressed. This beautiful aubergine Silk Chiffon Grecian Draped Gown by Jovani looked stunning on her and the simple soft curled hairstyle was perfect. My only critique would be the shoes. She got it right with the nude color, she just didn't need the "Pageant Stacked" Platforms.

Christel Khalil of The Young and The Restless looked fresh and young in this forest green Mini Dress with beaded cut-outs. Why look 43 when you are 23?!!

Academy Award Winner and Celebrity Apprentice star Marlee Matlin: Miss Marlee is giving you DRAMA! I think she looks spectacular in this Fuchsia Jersey Draped Gown. PERFECTION, from head to toe!!!!

The Bold and the Beautiful actress Kimberly Matula: On any other Red Carpet this probably would not have made it on my Best Dressed List, but she gets points for keeping the silhouette simple and letting the beautifully beading give you all the drama. Her major misstep was adding the Necklace. Stacked bracelets would have been much better. She's two minutes away from looking like a contestant in the Miss USA pageant!

Meredith Vieira: Now I know this will be a controversial one for most people, but I think Meredith looks great in this dress. It looks chic and sophisticated and very "New York". Love the comfortable draping and the asymmetrical back. She also styled it to perfection with some amazing earrings, great bracelets and some killer shoes! And PS: What a SMOKIN' Body on Meredith! (Did I just say that?)

Nick Verreos and Tyra!! Backstage at the Daytime Emmys for SOAPnet

Flip That Hair Darling!

The Daytime Emmy Awards are "Done and Done!" as I like to say...but the photos and the videos just keep on coming! After I did my red carpet interviews, I skedaddled my Greek-Venezuelan no-butt self through a side door of the Orpheum Theater and, along with my AMAZING SOAPnet producers, writers and cameraman, we set up shop backstage to get the "Post Award" reactions from the winners.

Hottie Couple: Nick Verreos and Outstanding Supporting Actor 2009 Jeff Branson of "Guiding Light"

I was privileged to be one of only a few media outlets who were allowed access (in a separate room) to interview the winners (Rachel Ray escaped me unfortunately--her pr people said she had to get back in the theater for another award) after they had their "moment" in the "General Press Room".
Halter Winner: Outstanding Lead Actress 2009, Susan Haskell of "One Life To Live" and Nick Verreos

I was so happy to get Outstanding Lead Actress winner, Susan Haskell (she's got amazing shoulders!), cutie Jeff Branson of "Guiding Light" (the NICEST guy!) and from "General Hospital" Julie Berman who looked gorgeous in a vanilla-colored jersey gown with a very high slit. Luke and Laura's Daughter: Outstanding Younger Actress 2009 Julie Berman of "General Hospital" Lulu Spencer

Once they arrived at my SOAPnet.com "station" I first asked them how they felt to get their Daytime Emmy trophy. I also had them say a heartfelt "Thank You" to whomever they might have missed in their acceptance speech--right to the SOAPnet camera; Just for us--and to the rest of America (he he).
Outstanding Supporting Actress 2009 Tamara Braun of "Days Of Our Lives" and Nick Verreos

One of my favorite moments of the night came towards the end, when off to left of my eye, I notice a stunning 6 foot tall blond woman in one of the other "Post-Award" rooms interviewing the stars. During a break in the award commotion, I pass by and realized it's one of my favorite "Lifestyle DIVAS", the one and only Sandra Lee!! Daytime Emmy Prom Date: Nick Verreos and Food Network's Sandra Lee

I love her show, Money Saving Meals, and couldn't believe that she was ten feet away from me! Her "entourage" of hair, make-up and pr people were THE CUTEST! At the same time I was going CRAZY over her, her staff was going "ga-ga for Nick". Little did I know (I soon found out) that they were all fans of Project Runway and me. Well, you know I just about died and went to Food Network Heaven! That's Big Bird! Nick Verreos points to Big Bird, backstage at the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards

My other favorite moment involved Sesame Street, Telly and Big Bird. Sesame Street was being honored for its 40Th Anniversary and a Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award. One of my first memories as a young kid having just arrived in the US from Venezuela was watching Sesame Street. In other words, I love me some Sesame Street! Congratulations to all the 2009 Daytime Emmy Winners and hope to see you next year!

Nick Verreos: Red Carpet at The Daytime Emmy Awards!

Nick Loves SOAPnet!!!!Welcome to the Daytime Emmy AWAAAAAAARDSSSSS: Nick Verreos strikes a pose on the red carpet

Another year, another Daytime Emmy Awards! For a second year in a row, I was privileged enough to have been asked by my favorite "Daytime Drama Kids" over at SOAPnet, to host their "Red Carpet Coverage" and interview all the stars. It was about 95 Degrees (at least it wasn't as hot as last year, when the thermometer hit 107 and my sweat glands went into "I-Can't-Take-It-No-More" mode) as I headed to the historic Orpheum Theater in Downtown LA, the site of this year's award show. My Make-Up girl (and Greek "sistah") Alex George, SAVED the day (at least for me) by bringing ICE PACKS, which she would sneak under my shirt as I stood out there in the glaring sun. So when I shrieked a loud "Oh Dear" to the stars, that's why!

Downtown LA Landmark: The Orpheum Theater

The red carpet was set up so when the stars first arrived, they were in a shaded area to the side of the theater as all the cameramen got to take their photos and the fans got their treasured first glimpse of the favorite stars. Then they were all mine--well, me, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc. But I was the fourth person the stars would come to (Yeayyyy!!! SOAPnet's got pull at the Daytime Emmys!!!).Location, Location, Location: The first three--SOAPnet (me) was to the left of "Extra"

I got to interview all the top Daytime Drama stars, most of the nominees, as well as the presenters. Of course, a highlight of mine was getting to see Susan Lucci once again, who was wearing a beautiful coral-colored hand-beaded Zuhair Murad gown. He's the same Lebanese designer who has been worn by the likes of Miley Cirus and Debra Messing. Susan was SO GRACIOUS and classy (as always!) and TINYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! I just want to put her in my Marc Jacobs tuxedo pocket and take her home!SOAPnet Three's Company: Writer Producer Sarah Tatting, Nick Verreos and Fashion Correspondent Meghan Jolly pose on the Daytime Emmy Red Carpet

I was thrilled to see how many of Daytime Drama's A-list stars were also (still) such fans of Project Runway. Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Winner Vincent Irizarry and his wife could NOT stop talking about how much they loved the show and how I was one of their favorites! I was like "can we get back to your nomination??!!".

It was wonderful to see all the younger actors looking very chic and living for their red carpet moment. Lots of the women chose lavender or violet as their color of choice (just like my skinny tie!) and had PLUNGING backless dresses. A lot of the younger guys chose to go sans tie, which was interesting. At first, you might think "too casual", but darlings in the 95 degree Downtown LA weather, it worked! Thank you to everyone at SOAPnet!! We were definitely the "Funky Bunch" of the daytime Emmy Awards! Love you!!

Nick Verreos Joins Soapnet.com for the Daytime Emmys!!

Nick Verreos Brings Fashion Red Carpet Talk...to the Daytime Emmy Awards! The Daytime Emmy Awards are this Sunday, August 30th and will be telecast on the CW Network . For the second year in a row, I'm excited to be covering the red carpet for SOAPnet.
I will be there asking all your favorite stars--from all the gorgeous gals to the sexy hotties-- what designer they are wearing as well as maybe try and get a little "Daytime Drama" dirt!
Last year, I was on the Kodak Theater red carpet in 107 degree weather and it wasn't pretty! The "Weather Man" says it will be a WARM 95 Degrees (Ouch!) so I will try and have an umbrella and/or a fan--and definitely LOTS of paper towels for my "shiny" forehead!
Hope you get to tune in to SOAPnet.com for some "Fashion Talk with Nick" LIVE from The Daytime Emmy Awards!
