18-year-old Kaytlin McKibbin was crowned Miss October Teen 2009 at a function in the Disa Hall, Tygerberg Hospital in Bellville last night. She beat 17 other contestants to win the title. Kaytlin is a Grade 12 pupil at Hottentots Holland High in Somerset West and will attend the University of Stellenbosch next year to study BA Education with a major in Remedial Teaching. The Miss October Teen pageant, which replaces the discontinued Miss October Fest Teen pageant, was organised by Miss SA 2008 finalist, Michelle Gildenhuys. More than 60 contestants, in three age groups, competed for the titles of Miss October Teen, Miss October Junior and Miss October Blossom.
Kaytlin was a Miss SA Teen 2006 finalist, and earlier this year was crowned First Runner-up at the Miss HH pageant, the pageant at which JoAnn Strauss started her pageant career before being crowned Miss SA 2000. Later this year Kaytlin will feature in a swimsuit spread in Seventeen magazine.
For the next year Kaytlin will assist Michelle in fund-raising projects for the Tygerbear Foundation which raises funds for the rehabilitation of traumatised children.
