The Miss Black Like Me pageant was organised by the manufacturers of the Black Like Me range of hair and beauty products to find an ambassador, spokesperson and poster girl for the range. The pageant has, to date, only been held on two occasions.
At the first pageant, 2 finalists from each of the 9 provinces were chosen for the final. The winner, Gareth Brown, did not qualify for the final of the Gauteng leg of the pageant and was a replacement when one of the finalists withdrew. She went on to qualify for and win the national final.
