The JIP Tiener/Teen contest was a competition for girls and boys in the 14 to 19 age group that was first held in 2003. Finalists were selected in preliminary events staged in Beeld, Die Burger and Volksblad distribution areas.
At the national final, contestants were not only judged on physical appeal, but also on interview skills and leadership qualities that were evaluated during a series of "adventure games".
